The instructor’s amused laughter reached my ears, “Up, Shifter. On your feet.”
I tried to move, couldn’t, tried again, and this time managed to scramble, rather gracelessly, to my feet. Why this particular instructor called me ‘shifter’, I could never figure out. Oh sure it fit me to some degree, but I’d never allowed anyone else to call me that. Especially in…wait, there *wasn’t* anyone else in the room…or was there?
