Kendle picked up the phone, and immediately winced in sympathy for whoever was calling her. She hadn’t had chance to see the number, so she didn’t know exactly who it was, ‘xcept for that it was someone on the ‘safe’ list, because it had gotten through the emergency settings.
Kendle had been trying a bread experiment, and hadn’t wanted to be disturbed-for almost anything.
Anything except for this: On the othe end of the phone, kids wailed, music blaired, and there was the haried sound of adults trying to shush the kids. Gods that situation sounded like a mess! “Kendle, Help! Dear gods, come get me, please!”
Kendle, noticing the frazzled sound of Kaira’s voice, immediately began to put away the starter, engredients, and grabbed her jacket and keys. “Where you at, Sancofa?”
“No…no, I wish. I be at the cousin’s place. Said dey wanted mah help wid food shit. Cain’t take this shit no mo.”
Kendle knew exactly where Kaira was, and headed to the tiny little coup, instead of the fancier ride she usually took. For the main reason that th coup only sat 2. It was time for the two girls to have a day out.

Kendle and Kaira sat at Kendle’s favorite coffee shop, siping mochas out of tall mugs. Kendle’s mug was printed with: All hail the Goddess Cafeina; she is life
Kaira’s was printed with: Perscription: Coffee. On the back it had the side affects of taking it. It was shaped like a long, slender pill bottle with a handle.
Kendle could see Kaira visibly unwinding. She had already slurped of the whipped cream from the top, and was savoring the rich, dark chocolate beverage with obvious enjoyment. It was good to see this. Kendle was glad she had managed to get Kaira away from the chaos.
“Ya gunna go back there?” Kendle leaned back in the overstuffed leather chair, with a sigh of contentment of her own.
“Hell no.” Kaira grimaced, “I wanna go home. Back to the Sancofa house. Where civilized people go.”
Kendle laughed, “I ain’t gunna argue theah. Yo peeps theah is definitely mo civilized, an’ way mo appreciative of yo skills an’such like.” She sipped her own mocha-milk chocolate to Kaira’s dark.
Kaira nodded, “Ain’t gunna do dat again. Dey can find somebuddy else to do dey shit if they want it done. Cain’t handle all dat damned noise. Sure, I want kids, but my kids ain’t gunna be like dat!” Kendle shuddered, “3 year olds dat done be whinin’ fo what dey want an’ gittin’ it ain’t my thing.”
Kendle nodded, “Mine neithah.” She watched Kaira finally lean back herself, wriggling into the chair, very much like a puppy trying to find the perfect spot. Kendle then raised a hand, and asked for coffee cakes to go with the mochas, and handed the server a Greenbucks card.
When the treats came, Kaira snagged hers, and Kendle chortled a laugh. It was good to see Kaira finally relaxed enough to snatch things with reckless abandon. *That* was more like the free spirited young woman she knew. More like it indeed.
